Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said on Saturday that the Mahatma Gandhi Inner Ring Road phase-3 works, from Shilparamam to Pedapalakaluru, would be completed expeditiously.Inspecting the works along with GMC Commissioner K. Mayur Ashok, Prathipadu MLA Burla Ramanjaneyulu and local leaders, Mr. Pemmasani said that the 4.25-km project was being executed at a cost of ₹48 crore. He said that issues involving occupants along the alignment had been resolved after the coalition government assumed office, enabling the works to begin.He said that raising the road level at some locations required shifting high-tension wires, which would involve an estimated additional expenditure of ₹2-3 crore. Additional culverts would also be required at NSP Canal crossings to ensure uninterrupted water flow, with each costing about ₹10-15 lakh. The contractor had been asked to undertake such works within the present project wherever possible.Mr. Pemmasani said a proposal had been submitted to extend the road through a proposed railway overbridge to Perecherla Junction, improving connectivity to Amaravati for people from Palnadu. The extension could cost between ₹15 to ₹20 crore, but approval was awaited.He said that the completion of the project would accelerate development, construction activity and land values around Guntur, besides increasing revenue opportunities for GMC and CRDA.
