The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) here have arrested a 22-year-old man and recovered what are believed to be valuables stolen and snatched from passengers on the Thiruvananthapuram–Chennai Central Mail (Train No. 12624).According to the police, two complaints were received through the RailMadad portal on the midnight of August 25 from passengers on the train: a handbag containing a mobile phone and cash was allegedly stolen from a woman passenger and an attempt was made to snatch the gold chain of another woman passenger. A similar, third incident was also reported on the train.Acting on the complaints, a joint team of the RPF-Erode, GRP-Erode, and the Crime Intelligence Branch, Salem, launched a search. During the overnight operation, the team apprehended G. Vishnu (22) of Pathanamthitta in Kerala and recovered the stolen properties. The GRP-Erode booked him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for robbery, snatching, and theft.Verification of his antecedents with the GRP and local police in Kerala showed that he was involved in 14 theft and robbery cases registered at eight police stations in Kerala between 2022 and 2025.
