A man allegedly involved in a series of chain-snatching incidents at the Erode railway station was arrested and 51 grams of gold jewellery were recovered from him on Friday.
Following repeated incidents at the station over the past few months, a special team comprising personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) was formed. The team examined footage from more than 100 CCTV cameras installed at the station and in the trains concerned. They also tracked the movement of suspects and conducted searches in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra.
During investigation, one of the accused, identified as Kashinath, had earlier been arrested at the Guntakal Railway Police Station in connection with the cases.
On Friday, another accused, identified as Praveen, the younger brother of the first accused, was arrested at the Erode railway station while allegedly attempting to transport the stolen gold ornaments after melting them and converting them into ingots. Police recovered two gold ingots weighing a total of 51 grams, believed to be linked to two chain-snatching cases. The accused was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
