The Government Railway Police (GRP), Thiruvanmiyur, has arrested a 29-year-old man, who allegedly snatched a gold chain from a schoolteacher while she was waiting to board a train at Perungudi railway station on Tuesday afternoon.

The teacher, Roslin, worked at a private school in Velachery. Around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, she was waiting for a train at the MRTS Railway Station in Perungudi, seated on a concrete bench on the platform. The CCTV footage shows a man walking about, and sitting next to her in a suspicious manner. He then sntached her chain and escaped. She raised an alarm, but no one came to her rescue as there were only a few passengers at the station at the time.

Later, she lodged a complaint with the GRP, Thiruvanmiyur, following which the police analysed CCTV cameras and traced the suspect to Chepauk. The suspect, who has been identified as Balaji, 29, was arrested at around 9 p.m. He is a fish vendor from Villupuram.
