Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Jack Messina, Parveen Kaur, Matt Long and Holly Taylor — followed the passengers and crew of a commercial airliner who mysteriously return after their plane disappears, only to discover they had been presumed dead for five and a half years. Now, Netflix has announced a sci-fi spinoff, “Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery,” featuring an entirely new cast of characters and fresh storylines. The upcoming series reunites members of the “Manifest” creative team, including creator Jeff Rake and former co-executive producers Margaret Easley and Laura Putney, who will now serve as co-creators and co-showrunners.“I’m delighted to be able to tell a new story for the ‘Manifest’ fans out there and also for a brand-new audience,” Rake told Netflix’s Tudum. “It’s been five long years since we showed up on Netflix, and there’s probably half a generation who has never heard of ‘Manifest.’ We’ve tried to thread the needle in a way that’s rewarding for the OG ‘Manifest’ fans, but also equally rewarding for people who are brand new to the show.”“Manifest” ran for three seasons on NBC before the network axed it. Netflix later revived the show for a fourth and final season, which was released in two parts in 2022 and 2023.According to Variety, the spinoff’s official logline reads: “When a mysterious plane crash-lands in Denver, the passengers emerge with no memory of who they are, where they came from, or why they’re here. A young social worker and a novice Homeland Security agent team up with the new arrivals in an attempt to stop a humanity-ending catastrophe, discovering along the way that they are all part of the very puzzle they’re trying to solve.”Read more below.Latest Live UpdatesKaroline Leavitt Could Be Headed To 'The View' In A Smaller RoleKaroline Leavitt may be making her way to “The View” — but not to join the show’s hosting lineup. On Thursday, The Daily Mail reported that the former White House press secretary was secretly in talks to serve as a guest host alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin. However, CNN later debunked the report, citing an ABC source who confirmed that Leavitt had only been invited to appear as a guest. Over nearly two decades, Kaczynski carried out a series of mail bombings that killed three people and injured 23 others. The random attacks, which occurred between 1978 and 1995, sparked the longest manhunt in U.S. history. As shown in the trailer released Thursday, Netflix’s biographical film chronicles Kaczynski’s story across two timelines. One delves into his early years, examining how the awkward college student eventually became a killer after participating in a controversial study led by Harvard psychologist Dr. Henry Murray (Russell Crowe). The other centers on fictional FBI agent Joanne Miller (Shailene Woodley) and her investigation into the Unabomber, ultimately leading to Kaczynski’s 1996 arrest. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tremblay admitted that audiences — and even he himself — might find it surprising to see him take on the part of a domestic terrorist.“I think right off the bat, that’s something that drew me to this role,” he told the outlet. “[It’s] out of my comfort zone, but also just completely out of the ordinary and something I’d never really done before, a character I’ve never played. And exploring a whole new world, really.”He also expressed hope that taking on an adult role centered on more “mature subject matter” will help audiences see him in a different light as an actor. In addition to Tremblay, Crowe and Woodley, “Unabomber” also stars Annabelle Wallis, Alexander Ludwig, Steven Ogg and Marc Menchaca. The film premieres on Netflix Sept. 25.
