That appears to be the case with Disney+’s “The Acolyte,” as nearly two years after its cancellation, viewers are still tuning in.Data from FlixPatrol shows that the Star Wars series, starring Amandla Stenberg and Manny Jacinto, climbed back into the top 10 streamed shows on Disney+ in the U.S. this week. That could be due to another Star Wars series, “Maul — Shadow Lord,” recently premiering on the streamer and continuing to release new episodes, with Disney+ possibly recommending “The Acolyte” as a follow-up watch.Led by showrunner Leslye Headland, the eight-episode series follows an investigation into a string of crimes that pits a revered Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Stenberg). As the mystery deepens, they’re pulled down a dark path where sinister forces make it clear that nothing is quite as it seems. The cast also includes Jodie Turner-Smith, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman and Carrie-Anne Moss. The renewed attention for “The Acolyte” may come as a surprise, given that the series only ran for a single season. It also became a point of controversy among some fans, with certain viewers targeting cast members online and review-bombing the show shortly after it premiered in 2024.“There has been a rampage of vitriol that we have faced since the show was even announced, when it was still just a concept and no one had even seen it,” Stenberg said on Instagram at the time, also noting “hyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol, prejudice, hatred and hateful language” coming from racist fans.Despite those setbacks, “The Acolyte” may have finally found an audience more willing to give it a fair chance after all this time.“The Acolyte” is streaming now on Disney+.See All UpdatesClose
