A 40-year-old Category ‘A’ history-sheeter was hacked to death by a gang of unidentified persons inside a community association building on Thiruneermalai Main Road on Friday afternoon.The deceased was identified as Anbalagan alias Mynakutty, son of Kathirvel, a resident of Eswaran Nagar, Nagalkeni. He was currently residing in K.K. Nagar and was involved in local quarry-related work, including washing and handling gravel.Police said Anbalagan had a significant criminal record. He was classified as a Category ‘A’ history-sheeter at Sankar Nagar police station and had been involved in two murder cases registered in 2009 and 2021. He was also facing 14 other criminal cases.According to the preliminary investigation, Anbalagan reached the community association building on Thiruneermalai Main Road around 9 a.m. on Friday for work and was later talking to his associates, Prabhu and Balaji. The three remained at the premises until around 1.45 p.m., after which the associates left for lunch.When Prabhu returned, he reportedly noticed four to five unidentified men entering the building. At least two of them were armed with deadly weapons. When Prabhu raised an alarm, one of the assailants allegedly threatened him, while the others attacked Anbalagan and fled the spot in an autorickshaw and on a two-wheeler.Sankar Nagar police registered a murder case and secured the scene for forensic examination. Five special teams have been formed to examine CCTV footage, identify the suspects and trace the vehicles used in the crime.Further investigation is under way. Published - August 29, 2026 05:30 am IST
