Aston Villa has wrapped up a €55 million deal with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Ibrahim Mbaye, beating Chelsea to one of European football’s most coveted young wingers. The transfer, agreed on August 28, represents a significant coup for Unai Emery’s side.
Chelsea had circled the 18-year-old with an offer reportedly around €50 million. Villa went higher, moved faster, and got their man.

One factor that likely smoothed the process: the relationship between Aston Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. When two clubs’ top decision-makers are already on good terms, negotiations tend to move with less friction. That’s exactly what appears to have happened here, with Villa finalizing terms while Chelsea was still circling.
The fee of €55 million, roughly £47 million, is substantial for a teenager with just two seasons of senior football under his belt. Mbaye is currently undergoing medical checks ahead of what is expected to be a long-term contract at Villa Park.
