Paris Saint-Germain have a recurring problem that most clubs would consider a luxury: they develop young talent well, then run out of room to play them. Ibrahim Mbaye, 18, is the latest prospect caught in that squeeze, and Aston Villa are moving quickly to take advantage.
Villa have intensified their pursuit of Mbaye throughout June 2026, with the reported deal value sitting at around £35 million. Negotiations are described as progressing well, and confidence within the Villa camp suggests a formal agreement could arrive soon.
Why Mbaye wants out of Paris
Mbaye signed his first professional contract with PSG in February 2025, a deal running until 2027. What it did not give him was a clear path to regular first-team football at one of Europe’s most star-loaded clubs.
He made 24 Ligue 1 appearances last season and scored 3 goals. His representatives have made clear he is open to a move. The World Cup provided the spark. Mbaye scored against France at the 2026 tournament, a goal that put his name in front of every scouting department paying attention.
