A seven-member council backed by ASA representatives is preparing for direct discussions with the Comrades Marathon Association in search of an amicable solution for athletes.
KwaZulu-Natal Athletics (KZNA) acting president Khulazweni Buthelezi says the organisation is preparing for a face-to-face engagement with the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) as efforts intensify to resolve the dispute surrounding the governance of the Ultimate Human Race.
Buthelezi confirmed to journalists on the periphery of the Hollywoodbets Durban 10k pre-race conference at Kingsmead Stadium that KZNA has established a seven-member council, with two members from Athletics South Africa (ASA) joining the process. The delegation has already held meetings and is expected to meet again before engaging directly with the CMA.
The move follows a KZNA council meeting on August 8, where a mandate was given to establish the seven-member structure, which includes two executive members. Buthelezi said the group had since held two meetings and incorporated two representatives from ASA as they prepare for negotiations with the Comrades Marathon Association board.
He stressed that the process was intended to be one of mediation rather than a public confrontation.
