Bo-Kaap residents protest against the approved six-storey hotel development planned for 150 Buitengracht Street.

Bo-Kaap residents took to the streets on Friday to protest against a approved “apart-hotel” in Buitengracht Street, with more pickets expected in the coming weeks.

Residents have raised concerns about the development and its impact on the heritage and character of the area.

Gentrification and increased congestion are also among the concerns raised by community members, according to information shared in a Facebook post by Voice of the Cape Radio.

The development is at 150 Buitengracht Street, close to the historic Auwal Masjid and on the boundary between Bo-Kaap and the Cape Town CBD.
