Bengaluru City Police’s (BCP) Anti-Rowdy Squads launched a special drive against rowdy-sheeters and conducted surprise checks on nearly 500 individuals listed as rowdies across the city, the police said.The surprise visits were conducted late on Friday night in the north, west, southwest and Electronics City jurisdictions. According to the BCP, 162 rowdy-sheeters were checked in the west division, 137 in the southwest division, 121 in the north division, and 67 in the Electronics City division.The exercise was carried out within police station limits that are known to be notorious, including Bandepalya, Begur, Parappana Agrahara, Chandra Layout, and Srirampura, among others.According to the police, the exercise was undertaken to ensure that the rowdies were not in possession of any firearms or any deadly weapons.Several rowdies have ongoing court cases, while some have been missing court proceedings. The officers directed them to attend their respective hearings.The police also checked many rowdies on long-pending registers.The raids come in the wake of a murder in Madiwala last week, which is suspected to have been the result of an old rivalry. Deadly weapons were used by the accused in the murder. In the aftermath of the murder, the police have now strictly warned rowdies to refrain from any unlawful activities.
