OTE is set to make its appearance in the coming days under the Telekom brand, completing the transition that began in April 2025 with the addition of the German group’s logo to Cosmote. The change is expected to be announced in the first week of September, as Greece’s largest telecommunications group faces intensifying competitive and technological challenges. These include PPC’s rapid expansion into telecommunications, growing competition in fiber-optic infrastructure and the need for OTE to maintain its lead in next-generation networks. The transition to Telekom refreshes OTE’s commercial identity and directly links it to Deutsche Telekom’s international presence. It does not, however, alter the company’s official corporate name, “Hellenic Telecommunications Organization S.A.,” or its existing trade names “OTE S.A.,” “OTE” and “Cosmote.”The brand being phased out carries considerable weight in the Greek market. Cosmote began commercial operations in 1998 as the country’s third mobile operator and, just three years later, in June 2001, became the market leader. In 2015, it was established as the unified commercial brand of the OTE Group.Cosmote is therefore a name with almost three decades of market presence and high brand recognition. OTE is now opting for Telekom, leveraging the German group’s greater international reach. The value of the brand was assessed this year by Brand Finance at $96.2 billion, up 12.8%, placing Deutsche Telekom first among telecommunications brands worldwide and corporate brands in Europe. The German company noted that the gradual integration of Greece into the unified Telekom brand has helped expand its international footprint. The move forms part of Deutsche Telekom’s broader strategy to create greater consistency in its presence across the markets where it operates. According to its annual report, during the first half of 2025, the commercial identity of the OTE Group was adjusted as part of efforts to establish unified recognition of the Telekom brand across its national operating companies.
