The Wrocław City Council has adopted a resolution condemning hatred and violence motivated by nationality.
According to Ukrinform, citing Wroclaw.pl, the debate over the document was marked by a heated dispute among council members, particularly over the situation of Ukrainians in Poland.
The resolution states that there is “no place, and there will be no place, in Wrocław for attacks, humiliation or intimidation of anyone because of their origin, language, accent or nationality.” The city also pledges to use all available means to counter aggression, hatred and intolerance.
The document was adopted following a series of high-profile incidents in Wrocław, including attacks on people of Ukrainian origin. At the same time, the resolution specifically emphasizes that violence can have different perpetrators and is not determined by their nationality.
“Recent events in Wrocław – both the brutal attack on Ukrainian citizens and the subsequent knife attack committed by a Ukrainian citizen – show that violence can have different sources and different perpetrators, but it always requires a firm and unequivocal response,” the resolution states.
