A 28-year-old woman died of injuries allegedly inflicted on her by a man following a quarrel at B.P. Agraharam in Erode city. Relatives and members of the public later staged a road blockade on Bhavani Road, demanding justice for her.The deceased was identified as Suguna, wife of Dinesh, of Poompuhar Nagar. She was found lying in a critical condition with severe injuries on her face, neck and body on Oongaliyamman Temple Street in the locality on Wednesday. On information from a passer-by, locals admitted her to a private hospital. When she was being taken to the Government Headquarters Hospital for further treatment, she died on the way.Police said preliminary inquiry showed that Suguna was acquainted with N. Taufiq Ali of the same locality. Following a quarrel, Taufiq Ali allegedly strangled her. He was arrested and was being questioned.Meanwhile, Suguna’s relatives and members of the public blocked Bhavani Road, demanding justice and seeking details about the background of the accused and previous criminal cases. They also demanded that the accused be produced before them. The blockade caused severe traffic disruption and led to heated arguments between the protesters and police.The protesters dispersed after the police showed them the arrested man through a video call.
