The Kanjikovil police on Sunday (June 28, 2026) arrested a 47-year-old construction supervisor in connection with the murder of a 60-year-old woman, whose body was found in a land near Pethampalayam, on June 23.The deceased was identified as Valarmathi, wife of Ramakrishnan (65), of the Vandiyuran Kovil area in Karungalpalayam. Her body was recovered from a vacant land and sent to the Government Erode Medical College and Hospital, Perundurai, for post-mortem.Two special teams, led by Perundurai Deputy Superintendent of Police Sivakumar, were constituted to investigate the case. Police said the woman’s identity was established with the help of a tattoo bearing the name “Ramu” on her left forearm and other identifying features. During the investigation, police found an injury on her neck and concluded that she had been murdered before her body was dumped at the spot.The accused, identified as Vijayakumar of Kunnathur in Tiruppur district, was arrested. Preliminary investigation revealed that he and the deceased were acquainted. According to the police, Vijayakumar allegedly took Valarmathi on his motorcycle to a secluded area near Pethampalayam after purchasing liquor. An argument reportedly broke out between them while they were consuming alcohol, following which he allegedly attacked her with a knife, inflicting fatal neck injuries, and abandoned the body.Police said the accused is married.
