(Yonhap) September is just around the corner, but South Korea's late-summer heat is showing little sign of letting up, with daytime temperatures forecast to reach as high as 34 degrees Celsius Thursday as rain hits parts of the country.Tropical-night conditions returned to Seoul after a one-day break, with temperatures at 25.2 degrees Thursday morning. The capital is expected to reach 32 degrees during the day. Highs are forecast at 33 degrees in Daejeon and Busan and 34 degrees in Daegu, Jeonju and Gwangju.The Korea Meteorological Administration said temperatures will remain above seasonal averages of 18 to 23 degrees for morning lows and 26 to 30 degrees for daytime highs for the time being.High humidity will make the heat feel more intense. Apparent temperatures are expected to reach around 33 degrees across most of the country and around 35 degrees in parts of southern Gyeonggi Province, the Chungcheong region and southern regions, where heat wave alerts remain in effect.Rain is expected across parts of the country Thursday, with 5 to 20 millimeters forecast in central and northern regions and up to 60 millimeters in the South Jeolla and South Gyeongsang provinces. Inland areas from Chungcheong southward could also receive up to 60 millimeters through the evening.Seoul, meanwhile, is not forecast to see rain Thursday, though skies will remain heavily overcast.Strong winds and high waves are another concern. A high-wave alert is in effect over the far eastern waters of the South Sea and waters around Jeju Island, where waves could reach as high as 5 meters.Fine dust concentrations are forecast to be low, with air quality expected to be good nationwide.
