(Yonhap) Scattered showers are forecast across much of the capital region Tuesday, but they are unlikely to bring lasting relief from the heat, with daytime temperatures expected to climb as high as 36 degrees Celsius.According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, hot and humid conditions will persist across Greater Seoul and Gangwon Province, despite intermittent rain.Showers are expected through 9 p.m. in parts of Greater Seoul and Gangwon Province and through 6 p.m. in North Chungcheong Province.Rainfall is forecast at 5 to 60 millimeters in northeastern Gyeonggi Province and the inland and mountainous areas of northern Gangwon Province, with 5 to 40 mm in Seoul, Incheon, other parts of Gyeonggi Province and central and southern inland Gangwon Province.The central and northern east coast of Gangwon Province could receive 5 to 20 mm, while northern parts of the South and North Chungcheong provinces are expected to see 5 to 30 mm.Thunder, lightning and gusty winds may accompany the showers.Temperatures are expected to remain above seasonal averages for the time being. Typical temperatures for this time of year range from lows of 19 to 23 C to highs of 26 to 30 C.While rain may temporarily lower temperatures, hot and humid conditions are expected to quickly return once showers stop.Tuesday's daytime highs are forecast to range from 31 to 36 C. Seoul and Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, are expected to reach 32 C and Incheon 31 C, while Gangneung, Gangwon Province, Daejeon and Sejong are each forecast to hit 34 C.Gwangju, Daegu, Ulsan and Busan are expected to reach 35 C, while Jeju Island is forecast to see a high of 34 C.Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, and Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province, are expected to be the hottest locations nationwide at 36 C.Dense fog could reduce visibility to below 200 meters in inland North Jeolla Province through Tuesday morning. Visibility may fall below 1 kilometer in other inland regions and along the west coast.Strong winds of 30 to 70 kilometers per hour are forecast over waters south and east of the country, with waves reaching 2 to 4 meters and potentially prompting high-wave advisories.Fine dust levels are expected to remain between "good" and "moderate" nationwide.
