A 45-year-old Zimbabwean national will remain in custody after allegedly trying to enter South Africa with R3.8 million worth of tobacco hidden in an LP gas trailer.
A 45-year-old Zimbabwean man has been remanded in custody for allegedly smuggling manufactured tobacco valued at approximately R3.8 million through the Groblersbrug Port of Entry.
This follows his first court appearance at the Phalala Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, August 26.
The accused, Shumba Munetsi, 45, was arrested by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Border Policing team at the Groblersbrug Port of Entry on Monday, August 24.
Limpopo provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said it is alleged that at approximately 6:42pm, SAPS members conducting border policing duties stopped and inspected a Volvo truck towing an LP gas trailer at the arrival gate as it attempted to enter South Africa.
