A truck was intercepted at the Beitbridge Port of Entry near Musina after authorities allegedly discovered a large consignment of explosives concealed inside, leading to the arrest of a driver.
A Zimbabwean national who was caught with explosives at the Beitbridge Port of Entry in Limpopo has been sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment in the Musina District Magistrate’s Court.
Edgar Maroto, 42, was arrested on Friday, April 10, after the truck he was driving was intercepted at the Beitbridge Port of Entry.
The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit in Limpopo said a coordinated multidisciplinary team comprising its members, the Border Management Authority (BMA), and Musina SAPS stopped the vehicle as it entered South Africa from Zimbabwe.
Upon an intensive search of the truck, a consignment of explosives was discovered.
