Jaecoo’s new J5 BEV brings 155kW of power, a claimed 402km range and a host of features to South Africa’s growing EV market.

Jaecoo, the Chinese brand known for its elegant, uncluttered design language, will soon be introducing a vehicle that is ‘smooth’ in another way.

Set to launch in September, the Jaecoo J5 BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) will enter South Africa’s hotly contested electric car market.

Priced from R549,900, it will go up against sister brand iCaur’s V23 (from R519,900), as well as the GWM Ora 5 EV (from R549,900) and Dongfeng Vigo E1 (from R499,000).

IOL got a sneak preview of the new Jaecoo J5 BEV at parent company Chery’s head office in Bryanston recently. While we couldn’t drive it far, due to the unit being a prototype not registered for road use, our short stint around the office complex did provide a taste of its inner-city road manners.
