Super Eagles-eligible goalkeeper Noah Atubolu is set to join Raphael Onyedika at Eintracht Frankfurt after SC Freiburg made a key step towards resolving his transfer situation, with the shot-stopper now expected to extend his contract before a possible loan move to the Bundesliga club.
According to Kicker, Freiburg and Atubolu have reached an agreement in principle on a contract extension designed to make the loan possible while protecting the club’s financial interests.
The 24-year-old, also wanted by Marseille, had been under contract until June 2027 and had rejected an earlier extension after setting his sights on a move to a bigger club, preferably in the Premier League. That move failed to materialise, despite reported interest from Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Hull City.
Atubolu enters the season after three years as Freiburg’s first-choice goalkeeper, during which he helped the club reach the 2026 UEFA Europa League final and made 36 Bundesliga appearances last season. He has also earned senior Germany call-ups, though he was left out of the country’s 2026 World Cup squad.
