ABUJA – AS campaigns for the 2027 general elections start, the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Center, CISLAC, on Wednesday, warned political parties and their candidates against weaponising religion to manipulate and suppress voters instead of speaking on issues that would woo voters.
The Executive Director, CISLAC, Auwal Rafsanjani, said the political actors and religious leaders should desist from using religion to exploit voters with careless utterances.
Rafsanjani also decried religious leaders being used by politicians to turn their pulpits to woo voters and mobilise political support, warning that the trend is not healthy for the electoral process and poses grave danger to Nigeria’s democracy, national cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
