Despite the focus on candidates’ educational qualifications, Baba said the major concern for many Nigerians remained the quality of governance and its effect on their daily lives.
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has warned politicians seeking to lead Nigeria in the 2027 general elections to be prepared to account for their educational background, personal history and integrity.
ACF Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Baba, gave the warning while speaking on Arise Television on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, saying Nigerians have the right to scrutinise the records of candidates seeking their votes.
Baba said the scrutiny should go beyond checking whether aspirants possess the required certificates, stressing that the consistency and credibility of their personal histories should also be examined.
“If you are presenting yourself for election to the highest office in Nigeria, holding lives together, being the Commander-in-Chief, it is legitimate to ask questions,” Baba said.
