Bulgarian Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov said the drones and drone fragments recently found along the country’s Black Sea coast do not pose a danger because none of the devices identified so far has carried ammunition.
Speaking to journalists before a hearing in the relevant parliamentary committee, Stoyanov said the objects were mainly reconnaissance and decoy drones, with most believed to be Russian-made. He identified Russian Gerber decoy drones and Zala reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles among the devices, while noting that Ukrainian drones have also been found. In some cases, the military has been unable to establish the origin because only parts such as wings or tail sections were recovered.
"All the drones that have been found so far, both yesterday and today and long before that, do not carry ammunition. These are reconnaissance drones, decoy drones, that is, they are not dangerous," Stoyanov said.
However, the minister stressed that the absence of ammunition should not lead people to approach such objects. He urged anyone who discovers a drone or part of one to keep their distance and immediately alert the authorities, leaving the inspection and disposal to specialized military teams.
