A drone was found on Kabakum beach near Varna on Wednesday morning, prompting Border Police and Navy teams to cordon off the area as a precaution. The unmanned aircraft was discovered by people on the beach and was later secured for transport to the Varna Naval Base.
The Ministry of Defense said the drone did not contain explosives. A specialized Navy team examined the device, which is about 2 meters long and approximately 1.5 meters wide, before arrangements were made to remove it from the beach for further examination.
The Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Varna also reported that parts of a second drone were found on Pasha Dere beach. The section recovered from Kabakum was not charged and was being transported, while the debris from Pasha Dere was also due to be taken away for examination.
There is currently no official information about the origin, model or circumstances in which the Kabakum drone entered the sea. Authorities have also not established whether the separate incidents along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast are connected or whether the devices have the same origin or purpose.
The latest discovery comes after several similar incidents in recent days. On August 22, the Navy responded to two reports. Drone debris was found along the coast between Albena and Kranevo, while another object identified as drone parts was washed ashore in the Rakitnika area near Varna. In the first case, military specialists determined that the device was a decoy drone and contained no explosives.
