Unrivaled, the 3×3 women’s professional basketball league, has completed an oversubscribed Series C fundraise at a value of $650 million, as the nearly three-year-old organization contemplates further geographic expansion.
Unrivaled was co-founded in 2023 by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, and the lion’s share of its ownership is concentrated among its players. Leading the Series C round is Ten Pillars Sports Fund, backed by UC Investments of the University of California. Fintech entrepreneur Jenny Just has also joined the round, along with reinvestments from existing investors including Alex Morgan and Trybe Ventures, Carmelo Anthony, Bessemer Venture Partners and Ashton Kutcher, and others.
As a result of the Series C raise, Unrivaled’s player equity pool stands at $200 million.
Alex Bazzell, Unrivaled chief executive and co-founder (and Collier’s husband) told Sportico that the fundraise will facilitate expansion beyond its home base in Miami. The league launched in South Florida and stages the majority of its games in a custom-built arena with about 1,000 seats.
The league’s third season will continue to be based in Miami, but Bazzell said it is unclear whether the league will remain in the 305 beyond the upcoming season. “We’ll start the season on the road, and we’ll end the season on the road,” Bazzell said, adding that Unrivaled tour stops are expected to be announced in September.
