A police team in Nagapattinam seized around 120 kilograms of ganja on Tuesday and arrested six persons on charges of smuggling the contraband for illegal sale.Acting on a tip-off, the Vaimedu police conducted vehicle checks and seized 120 kilograms of ganja worth 60 lakh from six persons. The contraband, which was brought from Andhra Pradesh, was meant to be smuggled to Sri Lanka.Police sources said S. Sudhakar of Muthupettai, V. Jegan of Thiruvallur, T. Shakthi Kumar of Thanikottagam, M. Arun Pandian and R. Boopathy of Vaimedu, and S. Santhoshkumar of Karur were arrested in connection with the seizure.The team also confiscated a couple of four-wheelers, six mobile phones and two modems used for smuggling the contraband. The arrested persons were later remanded in judicial custody. The police are conducting further investigation into the case.In a separate incident, five kg of tobacco, 20 kg of pan masala, 31 kg of hans and 64 kg of coolip were confiscated during a vehicle check on Tuesday.G. Munusami of Vaimedu has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.The Kariyapattinam police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Police are also searching for S.
