A police team in Mayiladuthurai seized around 50 kilograms of ganja on Monday and arrested five persons on charges of smuggling the contraband for illegal sale. The team also confiscated a couple of four-wheelers and one two-wheeler used for smuggling the contraband. The arrested persons were later remanded to judicial custody. The Mayiladuthurai police are conducting further investigation into the case.A press release from the Mayiladuthurai district police said special drives were being carried out all over the district with a view to checking illegal sale of ganja, narcotic and banned tobacco substances.
