Madurai district police have arrested one person and seized 5.5 kg of ganja in Melur on Sunday.A statement said that a special team of police conducted a surprise check at Kumar Nagar based on specific intelligence input that some people were selling ganja in the area.Even as the police barged into the area for a search, some people fled the scene on noticing them. However, the police gave a chase and managed to nab one G. Abinesh (22) of Chokkampatti near Melur.The police seized 5.5 kg of ganja, an electronic weighing machine, two knives and a two-wheeler from him.The police booked him under the provisions of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Arms Act.Even as the accused was being interrogated, the police have launched a manhunt for the missing persons.
