Crews from Poland’s electricity distribution operator will begin helping Lithuania restore power Thursday after a severe storm disrupted electricity service across the country, Energy Minister Lukas Savickas said Wednesday.
The Polish crews are expected to join Lithuanian teams as restoration work progresses in Poland, which was also hit by the storm.
“The storm affected not only Lithuania but also countries across the region,” Savickas said at a government meeting. “We see that a certain level of restoration has been reached on the Polish side, and following an informal conversation with Poland’s energy minister, it was agreed that Poland’s distribution system operator would provide assistance to Lithuania. At least several crews should begin work tomorrow, Thursday.”
More than 400 crews and 45 dispatchers are currently working to restore electricity in Lithuania, Savickas said.
Generators have been provided to municipalities as needed, while additional teams are being coordinated with the Fire and Rescue Department and the military to help repair damaged infrastructure, he said.
