More than 93,000 customers in Lithuania remained without electricity Tuesday after a severe storm battered the country over the weekend, distribution operator ESO said.
Rasa Juodkienė, an ESO spokeswoman, said power had been restored to 60% of affected customers since the weekend, but the situation remained critical in the Utena and Kaunas regions.
ESO’s real-time outage map showed about 79,000 customers without power Tuesday. Juodkienė said the published figures lagged behind the actual situation and were not fully accurate.
She said electricity service for all customers was expected to be restored within a week. ESO has received assistance from transmission operator Litgrid, the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union. Talks also were underway with counterparts in Poland.
Renaldas Radvila, head of ESO, said Monday that the hardest-hit districts were Utena, Kaunas, Vilnius and Panevėžys. In those areas, final connections for some customers could take until Saturday, August 29, he said.
