Newcastle United have agreed a deal worth up to £52 million for Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez as the Magpies look to strengthen their squad ahead of a demanding Premier League campaign.
The 24-year-old Spaniard is set to move to St James’ Park after Newcastle identified the need for greater experience and depth in midfield.
Gonzalez becomes an important addition to a Newcastle squad undergoing significant changes, with head coach Matthias Jaissle looking to build a team capable of competing at the top end of the Premier League.
