MANILA, Philippines — Amando Virgil Ligutan, one of the counsels for the prosecution in Vice President Sara Duterte’s trial, has reminded the Senate Impeachment Court that the proceedings should not strip lawyers of their rights and roles outside the courtroom — like him being a teacher.
Ligutan said this during the 19th day of the trial on Wednesday, after the court allowed him to file a counter-manifestation on the point raised by lead defense counsel Sheila Sison last August 12 about his social media post on misleading questions not being allowed even during cross-examination.
“The defense is asking this court to act on my post. It is elevating it to a serious courtroom violation. But what did I violate? I did not discuss the merits of the case. I did not discuss the strength or weakness of the legal arguments or evidence of either side,” Ligutan said.
