Gemma soon discovers that she can astral project, much like other characters in the “Insidious” universe.But her abilities go even further: beyond bringing physical objects back from The Further — the timeless, shadowy realm between Earth, Heaven and Hell — she can also summon those who inhabit it into the real world.With that comes a new kind of terror in “Out of the Further,” where trauma and a generational curse get wrapped into one demon’s sinister plan to unleash the dead upon the living. It’s a slight departure from previous “Insidious” films, which largely focused on a single malevolent spirit targeting its chosen victim.According to director Chase, that shift was intentional to give fans a reason to re-engage with the “Insidious” universe.“Anyone in the audience is going to ask, ‘Why are we still making these movies?
