The Salem Corporation has released the list of top 400 property tax defaulters in four zones on its official website www.salemcorporation.gov.in. The data shows that these 400 people or institutions owe a total of ₹49. 83 crore (including penalties).As per the Salem Corporation Budget, the civic body is expected to collect ₹160 crore in property taxes alone from 2,15,699 tax payers for the fiscal year 2026-27. Similarly, the Corporation is taking various steps to collect outstanding various amounting to over ₹200 crore, including property tax. As an important measure, the civic body has now made public the list of top 100 tax defaulters in the Corporation from each zone, which was posted on its official website on Monday evening.As per the data, the top 100 property defaulters in Sooramangalam zone have to pay ₹11. 38 crore, Hasthampatti zone - ₹19 .99 crore, Ammapet zone - ₹6. 10 crore and Kondalampatti zone - ₹12. 35 crore. In total, the top 400 property tax defaulters have to pay ₹49. 83 crore to the Corporation.In Sooramangalam zone, the top five defaulters are Reliance Prolific Traders (₹44. 96 lakh), Kurinji Super Specialities Hospitals (₹30. 06 lakh), Global Medical Centre (₹27. 75 lakh), Megawin Switch Gear (₹27. 68 lakh), and L. Thiagarajan (₹26. 39 lakh).In Hasthampatti zone, the top five defaulters are SKS Hospital (₹78. 38 lakh), J. Sheela Jayaprakash (₹64. 97 lakh), Lakshmiammal Ram Tractors (₹64. 03 lakh), R.P.K. Soundararajan (₹60.08 lakh) and J. Sheela Jayaprakash (₹55. 82 lakh).In Ammapet zone, the top five defaulters are Salem Handloom Society (₹51. 35 lakh), Aascar Entertainment (₹48. 53 lakh), Sengundhar Marriage Hall (₹43.38 lakh), AVS Engineering College (₹18. 23 lakh) and Om Sri Viveganatha Kalvi Arakattalai (₹16. 55 lakh).In Kondalampatti zone, the top five defaulters are Appavu (₹33. 09 lakh), Rangaraji, R.G. Loganathan (₹31. 84 lakh), Dharan Cancer Speciality Centre is in third and fourth place with a total (₹56. 03 lakh) and Venkatasalam Selvaraja (₹26. 13 lakh).Salem Corporation Commissioner Lalitaditya Neelam said that notices were issued to the property tax defaulters and existing teams of officials from the zone are taking steps to collect the taxes.
