The Erode Corporation has announced that it will disconnect water supply connections of major property tax defaulters as part of its measures to improve revenue collection.According to a press release, the Corporation has 1,48,017 property tax assessments, of which 1,09,017 property owners have not paid property tax for the 2026-27 financial year. The outstanding dues comprise arrears of ₹20.61 crore and current demand of ₹57.12 crore.The Corporation had earlier published on its website a list of 100 major property tax defaulters for the financial year 2025-26. An amount of ₹9.65 crore remains unpaid by these defaulters.To expedite tax collection, the Corporation said it would, in the first phase, identify taxpayers with large arrears and initiate action to disconnect their water supply connections if the dues are not cleared.Corporation Commissioner Arpit Jain appealed to the public to pay all dues, including property tax, vacant land tax, professional tax, water charges and underground sewerage charges, within the stipulated time to support the Corporation’s development works.
