Stormers XXIII scrumhalf and stand-in captain Ezekiel Ngobeni was one of the outstanding players against the Bulls XV. The Cape side will hope he leads from the front in the final Currie Cup round-robin match against the Lions XV on Friday.

The Stormers XXIII won’t concern themselves with the permutations of their final match against the Lions as they bid for a Currie Cup semi-final spot.

There will be no focus on scoring four tries to secure a bonus point. Instead, the Cape side wants to build on last weekend’s victory over the Bulls, when they looked like an outfit capable of competing in the playoffs.

It was arguably one of their best performances of the campaign, despite taking their foot off the pedal for a period and allowing the Loftus side to fight their way back into the contest in Pretoria. But after laying a solid platform in the first half, they did enough to secure a vital away victory.

Now, as they prepare to take on the Lions, who are also still fighting for a place in the knockout stages, they know only a clinical performance at Ellis Park on Friday will suffice.
