A Greek-owned tanker was struck by a projectile off the coast of Oman on Monday, losing propulsion in the Strait of Hormuz after sustaining damage to its engine room, maritime authorities said on Tuesday.
The Liberia-flagged Metro Venetian was hit about 9 nautical miles northeast of Ash Shishah, within the Omani-controlled shipping lane through the strategic waterway.
The crew was reported safe and there were no signs of pollution, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). Authorities were investigating the incident, while ships in the area were advised to exercise increased caution and report suspicious activity.
The 115,000-deadweight-ton product tanker was delivered in 2025 and is managed by Greece-based Metrostar Management.
The Metro Venetian is the fifth Greek-linked vessel reported struck in the Strait of Hormuz region in just over a month.
