The Short Version

In short: Your LatAm expat and nomad daily guide for Tuesday, August 25. Argentina’s wholesale peso broke 1,500 to the dollar for the first time, Buenos Aires’s city airport shuts for 55 hours from this morning, and the week ends at Jackson Hole where markets are pricing a Federal Reserve rate rise, not a cut.

The peso set a record. Argentina’s wholesale rate closed Monday at 1,507, up 10 pesos and its biggest single-session move since 3 June. Retail went to 1,525, the blue to 1,560 and the CCL to about 1,599.

Aeroparque closes this morning. Fifty-five hours from 9 a.m. today to 4 p.m. Thursday for runway work. About 900 flights are affected: 540 shifted to Ezeiza and 360 rescheduled. Check your departure airport before you leave the house.

Jackson Hole, and the frame is inverted. Kevin Warsh gives his first keynote as Fed chair at 10 a.m. New York time on Friday. Markets are pricing a September increase, not the cut most people still assume.
