The Flight Safety Foundation Southeast Europe-Cyprus has raised concerns over repeated incursions by Turkish military aircraft and drones into the Nicosia Flight Information Region without coordination with air traffic control authorities.

According to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), the group said such activity poses additional risks when it occurs near major flight routes and the approaches to Larnaca and Paphos airports, while placing unnecessary strain on air traffic controllers.

Its statement followed recent media reports and concerns raised by the Cyprus Air Traffic Controllers’ Union and the country’s Department of Civil Aviation.

The foundation said compliance with international civil aviation rules and coordination procedures was essential to protecting passengers and flights, while stressing that aviation safety within the Nicosia FIR remains at a high level.
