The European Union executive said Tuesday it is investigating reports Turkish warplanes harassed a plane carrying Greece’s defense minister to Cyprus over the weekend.
Spokeswoman Anitta Hipper said the Commission “is aware of the reports.”
“We will investigate exactly what happened and of course we will be in contact with our colleagues in Cyprus,” she added, in response to a question at a press briefing.
Turkey’s government on Monday rejected as “completely false” claims that Turkish fighter jets harassed aircraft carrying Nikos Dendias and the defense ministers of the Netherlands and France to Cyprus for an informal European Union meeting.
