The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has handed over recovered illicit drugs and arrested suspects to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, FCT Command, as part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in the fight against drug-related crimes.
In a statement on Monday by the FCT spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Sanusi, handed over the suspects and drugs to the NDLEA FCT Strategic Command.
Speaking during the exercise, Sanusi said although the police had the authority to investigate and prosecute drug-related offences, the Command considered it necessary to maintain synergy with sister security and law enforcement agencies, particularly the NDLEA, which has the statutory mandate to investigate and prosecute drug-related offences.
He said the collaboration was aimed at enhancing the collective response to drug-related crimes and other criminal activities within the FCT.
“While nothing precludes the Command from investigating and prosecuting drug-related offences, the Command considers it necessary to maintain strong synergy and collaboration with sister security and law enforcement agencies within the FCT, particularly the NDLEA, whose statutory mandate includes the investigation and prosecution of drug-related offences, ” the statement partly read.
