MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla estimated that at least P20 billion would be needed for authorities to install world-class quality closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all schools across the country.
The DILG chief explained that the budget may come from both the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) as part of security measures in the wake of the fatal school shootings in Tacloban and Zamboanga City last June 22 and August 18.
“If in the Philippines, we put up an entire CCTV system that is comparable to the best in class in the world, it would cost us maybe P20 billion to put an entire system,” Remulla said in an interview on ANC’s “Headstart” on Monday.
