MANILA, Philippines— The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday said a total P2.604 billion is needed for the reconstruction of damaged schools and classrooms nationwide after the recent enhanced southwest monsoon brought heavy downpours in the country.

Part of the total projected cost is P2.245 billion for the reconstruction of 898 schools and P359 million for major repairs across 718 schools, according to DepEd.

According to DepEd, there were also 9,597 classrooms nationwide that sustained minor to major damage—with Central Luzon being the most affected, with 3,596 classrooms, accounting for 41 percent of classroom destruction in the country.
