The United States President, Donald Trump, has announced plans to increase tariffs on vehicles, automotive parts and steel imported from Canada to 50 per cent, accusing the country of exploiting the US through what he described as unfair trade practices.
Trump made the announcement in a post on his official social media account, @realDonaldTrump, on Monday, warning that the new tariffs would take effect on January 1, 2027.
According to Trump, the increased tariffs would apply to “all Cars, Trucks, both large and small, Automotive Parts, and Steel,” as part of his administration’s efforts to address what he described as a longstanding trade imbalance between the two countries.
“Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years,” Trump said, accusing Canada of imposing “ridiculously high tariffs on our farmers and farm products.”
