Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda the Order of Liberty on Monday as he attended ceremonies in Kyiv marking Ukraine’s 35th Independence Day.
Nausėda said the award belonged to all the people of Lithuania for their unwavering and tireless support for Ukraine.
"Ukraine's struggle is the fight of all of us for freedom, which is why Lithuania has been, is, and will remain with Ukraine until its victory," Nauseda said.
He emphasised that the independence anniversary carries special significance as the country continues to fight against Kremlin aggression.
Nausėda noted that the resistance of the Ukrainian people is not only a defence of their own state, but a battle for a rules-based international order where national borders cannot be changed by force.
