The police have arrested four members of a 10-member gang that allegedly robbed a businessman from West Bengal of ₹26.54 lakh, a gold ring and two mobile phones, after abducting him from Coimbatore on August 17.Vinoth (37) and Vinoth Kumar (39) of Dindigul district, Shanmugaraj (44) of Puthur in Tiruchi, and Senthilkumar (45) of Parasalur in Mayiladuthurai district were arrested based on a complaint lodged by Debjit Rana (25), a native of Hooghly district in West Bengal.The police said that Mr. Rana used to visit Tiruppur for wholesale purchase of garments. He got connected with one Anand Kumar, who claimed to have been doing garments business in Tiruppur, through a social media platform two months ago.According to the police, Anand Kumar and his friend Senthilkumar met Mr. Rana at a hotel in Coimbatore when he visited the city on July 5. Senthilkumar allegedly requested a loan of ₹1 crore, which Mr. Rana reportedly declined.Mr. Rana came to Coimbatore with his friends Sidharth and Adharshkumar on August 16 and stayed in a hotel on Avinashi Road near airport junction. Anand Kumar, Senthilkumar and eight others came in two cars and confined Mr. Rana and his friends around 9 a.m. on August 17. The men intimidated them, assaulted and forcibly took them to a hotel at Palladam. The gang allegedly made them transfer ₹26.54 lakh and robbed them of a one sovereign gold ring and two mobile phones. The gang dropped the three persons near their hotel the next day night and fled, said the police.Mr. Rana received treatment in a private hospital on August 19 and lodged a complaint with the Peelamedu police on August 21. The police registered a case against the 10 persons under eight Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched an investigation, resulting in the arrest of the four men.
