Iran has said the deployment of US aerial refueling aircraft in Bulgaria violated international law and amounted to support for US and Israeli military operations against Tehran, while acknowledging that the planes have now left the country.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Tehran had information that several US KC-135 tanker aircraft had departed Bulgaria. He reiterated Iran's position that allowing a country to use national territory or military infrastructure to carry out attacks against Iran constitutes participation in aggression.
"Regarding Bulgaria, we have already stated our position. We also heard that several KC-135 tanker planes have left Bulgaria," Baghaei said at his weekly press conference, according to Iran's state news agency IRNA.
Baghaei said Iran did not have a problem with the Bulgarian people and noted that Bulgarian politicians and members of the public had spoken out against using the country's territory for military operations related to the conflict.
"There is no reason for any country to worry about us, unless it has provided its bases, facilities and equipment to the aggressor countries to carry out illegal actions," he said.
