The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it has received a diplomatic note from the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sofia concerning the possible deployment of U.S. Air Force aerial refueling aircraft at Bezmer Air Base. According to the ministry, the Iranian side used the established diplomatic channel to formally present its position on the planned deployment.
Responding to the note, the Foreign Ministry stressed that Bulgaria is acting in line with its treaty obligations to its ally, the United States, and is not taking any hostile action against Iran. It also emphasized that "it is ruled out that any military operations in the Middle East will be carried out from Bulgarian territory," seeking to reassure that the country's role would not involve launching military actions.
The ministry also expressed hope that tensions between Washington and Tehran could ease once again after the collapse of their recent ceasefire. "We hope that, as soon as possible, both sides in the conflict will once again engage in de-escalation efforts and a cessation of hostilities," the statement said, referring to the agreement the two sides had managed to reach only a short time ago.
